i love to read, especially while on vacation (such as now, where i have a week off to clean house, eat stuffing, watch football, and read). i’ve talked about doing so for awhile, and i’ve finally compiled draft one of my favorite books…

Ken for one.

If you won the lottery, what's the first thing you would buy?
Honestly, I would pay off my student loans. Maybe then buy a Tom Waits "Bone Machine" lp.

Has anyone ever called you lazy?
Why yes. Yes they have.

Do you ever take medication to help you fall asleep faster?
I smoked pot for a while a long time ago to get to sleep. I've been sick recently, so NyQuil's been good to me. I guess the answer is yes.

What CD is currently in your CD player?
Basher - The Best of Nick Lowe

Do you prefer regular or chocolate milk?
I don't like drinking milk (of any kind) by itself.

Has anyone told you a secret this week?
yes.

When was the last time someone hit on you?
When I think I'm being hit on, I'm usually not, so I really don't know.

What did you have for dinner?
Soy beef and broccoli with rice.

Do you wear hoodies often?
Yes I do.

Can you whistle?
I wish.

Have you ever participated in a protest?
I took some pictures when I was in Seattle of the WTO protests and was involved some, but I wasn't "in the shit."

Who was the last person to call you?
Joey

What is your favorite ride at an amusement park?
Gravitron

Do you think people talk about you behind your back?
I would like to think not.

What area code are you in right now?
949, unless Fashion Island has its own area code.

Did you watch cartoons as a child?
Not really. I remember watching a lot of Thundercats, but I mostly watched the Brady Bunch and Pee-Wee's Playhouse when I was a child.

How big is your local mall?
Pretty big, I guess. There are a bunch.

How many siblings do you have?
1.5 sisters.

Are you shy around the opposite sex?
No, but I am sometimes shy around specific people regardless of their sex.

What is your biggest regret?
Siding with the blatantly obvious wrong friend and hurting the person I cared about more in a rather regrettable situation.

When was the last time you laughed so hard your sides hurt?
I think it was when I repeated the Zach Galifianakis bit about being in a movie theater and whispering in a girl's ear, "Touch my vagina," to which she replies, "What?" and you whisper, "That's what you're supposed to say..." But not actually the bit, it was hearing Andy laugh for 20 minutes about it and me laughing at his laughing.

What movie do you know every line to?
The Breakfast Club. Probably most of Silence of the Lambs.

Do you own any band t-shirts?
yes.

When was your last plane ride?
Return from England September 2005

How many chairs are at your dining room table?
N/A

Do you read for fun?
yeah.

Can you speak any languages other than English?
I can speak very little French.

Do you do your own dishes?
Yes. People who don't are pieces of shit.

What color is your bedroom painted?
My "bedroom" is White.

Have you ever cried in public?
Not that I can remember, but I don't doubt that it's happened.

Do you have a desktop computer or a laptop?
I have a broken laptop under my futon.

Which do you make, wishes or plans?
Plans-ish-es.

Are you always trying to learn new things?
I try to, but I also find myself being lazy a lot of the time.

Do you shower on a daily basis?
Yes.

Are you currently wanting any piercings or tattoos?
Nope.

Do you believe that the guy should pay on the first date?
No, but I'm not opposed to doing it.

Can you skip rocks?
I don't like to brag, but there are two things I am amazing at: ping pong and skipping rocks.

Have you ever been to Jamaica?
No. My parents honeymooned there, however.

What to snack on at the movie theaters?
Free popcorn.

Who was your favorite teacher?
The teacher of my first English class at SMC.

Have you ever dated someone out of your race?
No, but I haven't dated much either.

What is the weather like?
Through these office windows it's either cloudy or sunny. I can't tell.

Would you ever date someone covered in tattoos?
I wouldn't go to a tattoo convention looking for a girlfriend, but I am not opposed to a bunch of tattoos. Actually, define "covered."

Do you have an online journal?
like a pita?

What was your favorite class in high school?
English.

Do you enjoy traveling via airplanes?
Yes, actually.

What personality trait is a must-have in your preferred gender?
Compassion followed closely by sense of humor. Or vice-versa.

Have you ever been attracted to someone physically unattractive?
This question doesn't make much sense, but at the risk of sounding like an ass, I think probably not.

When was the last time you slept on the floor?
When Natalie's house was evacuated and I slept at Epheron's house.

What is your favorite alcoholic drink?
Gin and Tonic.

Does your closest Starbucks have a drive-thru?
I have no idea.

Do you like your living arrangements?
They're not ideal, but I feel like I'm in a good temporary situation.

What is your mother's hometown?
Somewhere on Long Island. Bellmore?

How many hours of sleep do you need to function?
6.5

Do you eat breakfast daily?
No, but I love going out to breakfast or making a big breakfast when I can.

What was the last thing to scare you?
A large turtle that is always kept on the balcony that unexpectedly crawled out from underneath my bookshelf when I was changing.

Are your days full and fast-paced?
Not lately.

Did you ever get in trouble for talking in class?
An alcoholic history teacher from high school called me an "idiot stick" for no reason once.

What is your favorite fruit?
Pomegranate.

Do you pay attention to calories on the back of packages?
Not usually. I look at fat content, though.

How old will you be turning on your next birthday?
27! Yeesh.

Are you picky about spelling and grammar?
For myself, yes. I am with other people, too, but I don't try to embarrass anyone or anything.

Do you believe in life on other planets?
I find it hard to believe that there wouldn't be some kind of life on other planets.

Have you ever been to Six Flags?
Yes, and I am thinking of starting my own Six Flags gang called Los Riddler Riders.

Who was the last person to piss you off?
The Irish meatheads at the Futureheads show in front of me groping the 15 year old girls.

Do you believe that God has a gender?
N/A

What was the last thing you ate?
Granola.

Do you get along better with the same or opposite sex?
I get along with both sexes equally.

What did you dress up as for your first Halloween?
An unraveling mummy.

How did your parents pick your name?
They "just liked it."

Do you like mustard?
I like mustard a lot.

What do you tell yourself when times get hard?
"Go to sleep."

Would you ever sky dive?
Probably not.

Do you sleep on your side, tummy, or back?
On my side. Like a fetus. Like a comfortable cat.

What character from a movie most reminds you of yourself?
I suppose it used to be Grover from Kicking and Screaming until I actually reached his age. I haven't seen the movie for a bunch of years and would probably say nobody.

Have you ever bid for something on Ebay?
Um, yes.

What do you think of Angelina Jolie being pregnant?
I think she's brave, very brave. I mean, a beautiful actress who's been in dozens of terrible movies doing that to her body, is just...so honorable. You women are lucky to have someone like her to call your own.

Do you enjoy giving hugs?
I do.

Would you consider yourself to be fashionable?
I don't know. I like tucking in shirts that button up.

Do you own a digital camera?
Yes.

If someone you had no interest in dating expressed interest in dating you, how would you feel?
Flattered and awkward.

What celebrities have you been compared to?
Alan Alda, and Tobey Maguire before he had muscles.

Who is your favorite Star Wars character?
N/A

Does it annoy you when someone says they'll call but never do?
Yeah.

What books, if any, have made you cry?
"Last Exit to Brooklyn" was really upsetting to me, but I don't think I cried.

Do you think you're attractive?
Yes/No

What are you allergic to?
Pollen. Cats + heat. Hot cats.

Are you a jealous person?
Occasionally.

What's your opinion on sex without emotional commitment?
I'm sure that it's possible and can work when people are both "on the same page," but I also think it's impossible for both people to feel exactly the same thing, or for someone to agree to control their emotions.

Do you ever feel guilty after eating meat?
I don't eat meat. I sometimes feel guilty on the occasions that I have seafood.

If you were born the opposite sex, what would your name have been?
I never asked. I think "Tyler" was another boy's name for me. Maybe "Noa."

Tomorrow I wake up at 6:45 to go to a court house to try and get a $109 jaywalking ticket reduced to $20.

"It was a clear Sunday morning, Judge. Not a car in sight. I am wearing this sweater that is nice enough that you think I am a decent human being, but is not too nice so you think I can actually pay this ridiculous sum of money for doing something I've done since I was a child."

And to think I had always taken jaywalking tickets as some kind of urban myth.

So, my friend Bridget Kearney was one of the two winners chosen jazz category of the John Lennon songwriting contest. It’s a song that I recorded a while back with her band Lake Street Dive. The drums are kind of out of phase, which is embarrassing, but it was a very rushed session over spring break with no assistants.

So, y’all need to vote for Bridget’s tune over here:

Scott McDowell: The state of things

For those of you following along from home, here is where things currently stand:

Threads (the ol’ wwwboard) has been taken down temporarily.
Threads has always been my favorite part of this site, mostly because it’s where all of you get to control the content. It’s a place where those of us from back in the day can keep in touch and joke about the yester years while keeping each other informed of what’s ahead (Ahhhhhhh). Some of the posts, while certainly very funny, involved unkind statements involving names of people from our past that really exist and have reputations and feelings that need to be considered. One of those people found the site, was deeply hurt by how their name was being used, and made a phone call to the of the author of this content. This author then contacted me and asked that I remove the offending posts. Rather than going through the arduous task of sorting out all the acceptable content from the possibly offensive (where do I draw the line?) I just decided to pull the whole thing offline for a bit to let things cool down. I don’t know what the future holds, but for now this part of the site will have to be missed. The good times…oh the good times…

Goodbye Boston >> Hello San Francisco
My last few months in Boston were really something. I made some wonderful friends (what’s new?) and had some really great times…all while being totally stressed about where I was going to live, what I was going to do, who it was going to be with, and how I was going to hold it all together. I had my heart broken and hurt a few others in the process. Life is complicated. ~~~ Now I live in San Francisco and couldn’t be happier. What a wonderful city this is, it’s so much better than I realized before. And I made my decision about a week before I found a place to live. I am surrounded by great friends, and seem to make plenty of new ones each week.

I have an internship at a great recording studio
I got completely hooked up, thanks to the lovely Sarah Cabell and her equally lovely mother, with a job at a pretty sweet recording studio.

I should have done this long ago, but here are some pics of my “new” house.

And here’s a fun little tour…We start on the sun-porch (though, today it provides a lovely view of the rain, no sun), then into mike’s room, the livingroom, which is in a rare state of messiness as mike had to hurridly vacate the washing machine in his half-asleep state so I could get mine done, then we enter my office, the kitchen, a terrible view of the bathroom, and my bedroom where mike is sleeping.
