Have a safe flight.

Tomorrow I wake up at 6:45 to go to a court house to try and get a $109 jaywalking ticket reduced to $20.

"It was a clear Sunday morning, Judge. Not a car in sight. I am wearing this sweater that is nice enough that you think I am a decent human being, but is not too nice so you think I can actually pay this ridiculous sum of money for doing something I've done since I was a child."

And to think I had always taken jaywalking tickets as some kind of urban myth.

Sometimes When I’m Drunk and You’re Wearing My Favorite Shirt

So, my friend Bridget Kearney was one of the two winners chosen jazz category of the John Lennon songwriting contest. It’s a song that I recorded a while back with her band Lake Street Dive. The drums are kind of out of phase, which is embarrassing, but it was a very rushed session over spring break with no assistants.

So, y’all need to vote for Bridget’s tune over here:

The state of things

For those of you following along from home, here is where things currently stand:

  1. Threads (the ol’ wwwboard) has been taken down temporarily.
Threads has always been my favorite part of this site, mostly because it’s where all of you get to control the content. It’s a place where those of us from back in the day can keep in touch and joke about the yester years while keeping each other informed of what’s ahead (Ahhhhhhh). Some of the posts, while certainly very funny, involved unkind statements involving names of people from our past that really exist and have reputations and feelings that need to be considered. One of those people found the site, was deeply hurt by how their name was being used, and made a phone call to the of the author of this content. This author then contacted me and asked that I remove the offending posts. Rather than going through the arduous task of sorting out all the acceptable content from the possibly offensive (where do I draw the line?) I just decided to pull the whole thing offline for a bit to let things cool down. I don’t know what the future holds, but for now this part of the site will have to be missed. The good times…oh the good times…
  2. Goodbye Boston >> Hello San Francisco
My last few months in Boston were really something. I made some wonderful friends (what’s new?) and had some really great times…all while being totally stressed about where I was going to live, what I was going to do, who it was going to be with, and how I was going to hold it all together. I had my heart broken and hurt a few others in the process. Life is complicated. ~~~ Now I live in San Francisco and couldn’t be happier. What a wonderful city this is, it’s so much better than I realized before. And I made my decision about a week before I found a place to live. I am surrounded by great friends, and seem to make plenty of new ones each week.
  3. I have an internship at a great recording studio
I got completely hooked up, thanks to the lovely Sarah Cabell and her equally lovely mother, with a job at a pretty sweet recording studio.

And here’s a fun little tour…We start on the sun-porch (though, today it provides a lovely view of the rain, no sun), then into mike’s room, the livingroom, which is in a rare state of messiness as mike had to hurridly vacate the washing machine in his half-asleep state so I could get mine done, then we enter my office, the kitchen, a terrible view of the bathroom, and my bedroom where mike is sleeping.

Friday Night Roller Rink Pick-Up Lines:

"Hey girl, I've had my eye on you since 'The Hokey Pokey.'"

"I saw you from across the rink and, uh, when the deejay threw threes with those huge fuzzy dice, I knew you were something special."

"I'd like to buy you a fifty-cent sticker with a cobra on it from that machine over there."

"I came in to this place tonight thinkin' 'red light,' but now that we're here together, my heart's softly whispering, 'green light.' Ya feel me?"

"I think the deejay's queer; motherfucker's played Dancing Queen like eight times tonight and it ain't even 9:30 yet."
